Design and build two battery-powered light-up signs using electroluminescent (EL) wire. Learners ages 9 and up bend and arrange the wire, connect it to a battery pack to complete a circuit, and explore how a glowing line can become an original piece of art.

Hands-on learning

  • Design: Follow one of five included templates or create a custom continuous-line sign.
  • Circuits: Connect EL wire to a battery pack and observe the completed sign light up.
  • Materials science: Use the included reading material to explore how EL wire produces a neon-style glow without becoming hot to the touch.
