Why so many graphic novels? Because graphic novels meet reluctant readers where they are, build visual literacy, and tell stories that matter in a format kids actually want to pick up. They also help kids who struggle with decoding emotion from text visualize the intent and feeling behind words — something that can be genuinely transformative for neurodivergent readers. Our son is autistic and leans heavily on graphic novels for social cues. If a child reads a graphic novel instead of nothing, that’s a win. Full stop.
