Integrated Learning
Students explore composer biographies and orchestral music while connecting listening with instrument design and acoustics. The syllabus offers three four-week units, ongoing piano-study suggestions, introductory bamboo-flute practice, and conceptual Rubank reading assignments. Portfolio work includes a sound-production comparison, comparative woodwind listening analysis, and research on flute design and Boehm's 1847 redesign.
Instrument and Materials Note
The bamboo flute is a modern teaching instrument for posture and introductory technique, as well as comparison with earlier keyless transverse instruments. It is not a Baroque replica or a replacement for a keyed concert flute. Rubank's concert-flute fingerings are studied conceptually, not performed on the bamboo flute. Suggested reading matches should be adapted to the editions used.
A piano or keyboard is required for the parallel piano track and is not included. A keyed concert flute and piccolo are also not included. The illustration shows a study setting; the piano pictured is not part of this bundle.
