As the last Holocaust survivors fade from our world, their stories have never felt more urgent to hear.

Ten years ago Sophie created the documentary series “ The Last Ones ”, Leslie joined a few years later. The idea was simple: to visit survivors in their own homes, in familiar surroundings, and let them speak freely — over a slice of cheesecake or a piece of lekach — about their childhood, the war, the arrest, the deportation, and survival in the camps. But also about what came after: the disbelief and hostility that often awaited them, the painful return to life, the question of love, of children, of sleepless nights, of memory and transmission — and of the haunting failure of “Never Again.” In this powerful collection of voices, twenty five of the very last survivors of Auschwitz-Birkenau come together to form a portrait not of life after Auschwitz, but of life with Auschwitz — as they themselves say.
